  • CUPPING:   the use of reverse pressure to promote circulation and relieve congestion in the muscle tissue.  Also beneficial for respiratory issues.

  • GUA SHA: translated "gua" means scraping and "sha" redness.  The technique involves using a hard sided tool to apply unidirectional firm strokes on the surface if the body.  The action produces a myofascial release, and similar to cupping brings fresh circulation into areas affected by pain and mobility issues.  There is research that Gua Sha can also help to positively impact the immune system by upregulating to boost immunity or down regulate in the case of auto-immune or inflammatory issues.

  • HERBAL MEDICINE: Herbal medicine is one of the oldest medical approaches.   In Traditional East Asian Medicine, we draw on texts that date back over 2000 years ago.  Herbal prescriptions are customized to the individual's constitution and ailment, and usually given in the form of tea.

FAQs

Does acupuncture hurt?
Being that the needles are as thin as a hair, there is typically little to no sensation upon insertion.  Although some people do report feeling a slight pinch.  Many have said they feel the results of acupuncture treatments far outweigh any temporary discomfort.

How much does acupuncture cost?
Private practice sessions are $125 for the initial consultation and treatment and $85 for each follow-up.
How long does a session last, do I need to return frequently to maintain my results?
A typical session lasts about an hour.  Acupuncture is a therapeutic modality, meaning it's effect is cumulative and does benefit from routine sessions.  Depending on how long you have lived with your condition helps determine how long it will take to achieve acupuncture's maximum benefit. Like any modality,  there are some individuals who do not respond to acupuncture and that can be determined within a few sessions.  Once maximum benefit has been achieved the treatments frequency becomes less and less.  There are many patients who only return once every 4-6 week for maintenance.  A small time commitment for optimized health!
Can acupuncture, shiatsu and herbal medicine be used in conjunction with my western medical care?
Of course!  Acupuncture, shiatsu and herbal medicine are frequently classified under complementary and alternative treatments.  That means that they can work WITH western medicine to achieve maximum benefit for the patient.  A great example of this is the use of acupuncture with fertility treatments.  According to the Guardian online, acupuncture can increase IVF success rates by 65%!
